Bounces/Dyons in the Plane Wave Matrix Model and SU(N) Yang-Mills Theory

چکیده
We consider SU(N) Yang-Mills theory on the space R×S3 with Minkowski signature (−+++). The condition of SO(4)-invariance imposed on gauge fields yields a bosonic matrix model which is a consistent truncation of the plane wave matrix model. For matrices parametrized by a scalar φ, the Yang-Mills equations are reduced to the equation of a particle moving in the double-well potential. The classical solution is a bounce, i.e. a particle which begins at the saddle point φ = 0 of the potential, bounces off the potential wall and returns to φ = 0. The gauge field tensor components parametrized by φ are smooth and for finite time both electric and magnetic fields are nonvanishing. The energy density of this non-Abelian dyon configuration does not depend on coordinates of R × S and the total energy is proportional to the inverse radius of S. We also describe similar bounce dyon solutions in SU(N) Yang-Mills theory on the space R×S2 with signature (−++). Their energy is proportional to the square of the inverse radius of S. From the viewpoint of Yang-Mills theory on R ×S2 these solutions describe non-Abelian (dyonic) flux tubes extended along the x-axis. ∗ Supported in part by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).

Yang-Mills Instantons and Dyons on Group Manifolds
We consider Euclidean SU(N) Yang-Mills theory on the space G×R, where G is a compact semisimple Lie group, and introduce first-order BPS-type equations which imply the full YangMills equations. For gauge fields invariant under the adjoint G-action these BPS equations reduce to first-order matrix equations, to which we give instanton solutions. In the case of G = SU(2) ∼= S, our matrix equations...
متن کاملQuantum entanglement of charges in bound states with finite-size dyons
We show that the presence of finite-size monopoles can lead to a number of interesting physical processes involving quantum entanglement of charges. Taking as a model the classical solution of the N = 2 SU(2) Yang-Mills theory, we study interaction between dyons and scalar particles in the adjoint and fundamental representation. We find that there are bound states of scalars and dyons, which, r...
متن کاملPlane - wave Matrix Theory from N = 4 Super Yang - Mills on R ×
Recently a mass deformation of the maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills quantum mechanics has been constructed from the supermembrane action in eleven dimensional plane-wave backgrounds. However, the origin of this plane-wave matrix theory in terms of a compactification of a higher dimensional Super Yang-Mills model has remained obscure. In this paper we study the Kaluza-Klein reduction of D = 4...
متن کاملCounting Yang-Mills Dyons with Index Theorems
We count the supersymmetric bound states of many distinct BPS monopoles in N = 4 Yang-Mills theories and in pure N = 2 Yang-Mills theories. The novelty here is that we work in generic Coulombic vacua where more than one adjoint Higgs fields are turned on. The number of purely magnetic bound states is again found to be consistent with the electromagnetic duality of the N = 4 SU(n) theory, as exp...
متن کاملFivebranes from gauge theory
We study theories with sixteen supercharges and a discrete energy spectrum. One class of theories has symmetry group SU(2|4). They arise as truncations of N = 4 super Yang Mills. They include the plane wave matrix model, 2+1 super Yang Mills on R × S2 and N = 4 super Yang Mills on R × S/Zk. We explain how to obtain their gravity duals in a unified way. We explore the regions of the geometry tha...
